Although the PC Plus SuperCD is thoroughly tested on a variety of machines to ensure that everything works, there are times when a program may have some problems on other systems.
When this happens, we try to sort it out as fast as possible. This section has the fixes for common problems from recent disks and also has a link at the end to the new program for Technical Support on the Super CD.
We've had several requests for help on how to uninstall Infopedia. Here's a
list of the files Infopedia installs or changes on a clean Windows 3.1 system,
but just deleting this lot will almost certainly
prevent Windows from loading, so only for the experts. We cannot
provide technical support on problems that arise from attempting and failing to
un-install this program. Only proceed if you accept these terms and are
confident of your abilities. Here's the list:

FutureLock is a special utility which can allow different levels of access to your computer. It lets you set up different users and yourself as administrator, so that certain programs, files or directories cannot be seen or used by unauthorised personal. In the original version included, the config file for Windows 3.1 was missing because a problem encountered with the CD cutter, which meant that it couldn't be installed. This has been resolved and both the Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 versions have been included here for you to try out.
Note: This program password protects your machine. The default password is LETMEIN ( Let me in). If you change your password and forget it, then you will NOT be able access you machine, so make sure that you are comfortable with the program before using it and that you keep a note of your password. If you lose it, there is nothing anyone can do!
This was just a small Shareware utility that displays a set of Murphy's laws. It ran fine on most machines, but didn't have some common dll files. Although they were on the disk in a different directory, not everyone found them. They are all included here and it can be run directly from here. Windows 95 only
This package is a document manager and allows you to scan documents and store bitmaps of them. It can make the control of documents easier than ever. The version included on the Super CD had some problems installing a driver which affected functionality. This is the full version with the problem fixed.
This program was the complete release 4 for you to spruce up your computer. Although designed for Windows 3.1 and above, some 3.1 users had problems. It expects a standard Windows 3.1 setup in order to install and if you have made changes, it will not work. For example, if you have changed the swap file on your computer so that Windows doesn't use its own automatically in the Windows directory, the program won't install. You must change this back for the duration of the installation in order for it to work.
It is designed to run under Program Manager. Three functions rely on Program manager: Installation/Setup, Icon Setup and Uninstall. Program manager must be running for them to function. If you are running a program that takes the place of Program Manager, you must go back to PM to run them. Also, you must ensure that the Minimise on Use option is set to off. To check this, see that a check mark doesn't appear in front of its menu option: Alt, Option, Minimise on Use.
Some people have had trouble using this beta version. You should note that you require a TCP/IP connection in order to use this program as it is designed for WWW page creation. If you are having problems other than this, it may simply be an incompatibility with your machine. As stated, this is only a beta version and may still have bugs. This version also timed out at the end of January. This is not a bug and is simply the limitations. As you can see, all products now list their limitations exactly.
Thanks to several readers who wrote in to correct us. There is in fact an Exit button on the program. Press the right arrow at the New Game page of the Passport and you will get to the Exit screen. There is no need to reset your machine.
Although these programs are actually fine, there might have been some trouble using them if you aren't aware of some of the aspects of CD-ROMs. Because the files get set to read-only status, copying the files from the CD meant you had to manually adjust this for the programs to function. To sort this out a new version has been created which deals with this automatically.
If you are trying to install the Hands On files from the graphical interface in InfoCourier, you will not be able to. This is because of a conflict in file names that is confusing the interface. You can install it from the Text Only interface or the IE3 interface. Alternatively the install program is located in the HandsOn folder on the CD-ROM called PCPlus.exe and the extracted files can also be found directly in that folder.
There was also a problem with the Java files which were included uncompressed because of long filenames. This can be avoided by using the complete Hands On file installation discussed above on the Issue 125 SuperCD. However, the files have also been included again this month, in the Java125 folder in the Handson folder on this CD-ROM.
Unfortunately we omitted the Jackpot tutorial files, but we have supplied them in full this month. You can find them in the normal Hands On section.
Some people have had problems installing on a Windows 95 machine with OLE2.REG. To solve this problem go into your Windows\System folder and rename OLE2.REG to OLE2.bak and then re-install Delphi.
Future Publishing offers technical support for people having trouble installing programs from the Super CD. There are various things you must have ready before the staff will be able to help you. You must use the special program designed to help you organise the information needed that we have included on the CD.
